Govt to implement ‘no work, no pay rule’ on striking workers Monday

The Osun State Government said it would start ‘the no work, no pay rule’ on the employees of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who refused to resume duty from Monday.

The government’s decision was contained in a memo released on Monday and signed by the acting Registrar of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede.

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Ospoly chapter had declared an industrial action following the suspension of Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo, as the Rector, over alleged abuse of office and financial impropriety.

Meanwhile, the government directed the management of the polytechnic to reopen it on Monday as the panel it constituted to investigate the issues that led to Odetayo’s suspension continued its assignment.

However, upon realisation that many staffers had refused to return to their duty posts, the management invoked the ‘no work, no pay rule.’

The statement reads, “Sequel to the government directive that the institution should re-open fully on Monday, 14th August 2023, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Institution, Diran Ayanbeku, has directed that all staff of the institution should report unfailingly to commence the suspended Part-Time students first semester examination immediately.

“As a result of this, the chairman directed that Attendance Registers should be opened in the personnel unit of the institution’s Registry for the staff to indicate their attendance daily.

“The government has declared the ‘no work, no pay rule’ on staffers, who refuse to resume duty as of Monday, August 14, 2023.”

The management also said any worker who refused to perform their duties would be sanctioned accordingly.
