Arsenal's next six fixtures after Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Having won their first piece of silverware already this season after triumphing over last season’s Premier League title rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield, Arsenal are looking to put the heartbreak of last year behind them.

They took the confidence of finally beating Pep Guardiola’s side into their league opener against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates, winning 2-1 against the Midlands club.

Excellent goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka were enough to see off a late Taiwo Awoniyi strike as the Gunners held on to secure all three points and make a perfect start to the new season.

But you’re only as good as your last result, and the games will come thick and fast for Mikel Arteta in the next few weeks.

A fixture that has proved pretty fruitful for Arsenal in recent years, Arteta’s men will have to follow up their result against Forest with a trip to Selhurst Park.

Arsenal won both encounters last season in the Premier League by an aggregate score of 6-1, and will be confident travelling to a Wilfried Zaha-less Palace side. By the time the game kicks off on Monday evening, Arsenal will know how their league rivals have performed, and the pressure may already be on the north London outfit to keep the pace.

Saka managed a brace in his last clash with the Eagles and will be eager to take his sensational form into this one.

Facing another London side, Arsenal will feel confident hosting Fulham. The Cottagers have not tasted victory against Arsenal since the 2011/12 campaign, losing last season’s meetings 2-1 and 3-0.

Centre-back Gabriel scored home and away against Fulham last season, while also gifting a goal to Aleksandar Mitrovic, so don’t be surprised if the Brazilian is at the heart of things for the Gunners.

Arsenal have already faced their gameweek four opponents Manchester United this season, albeit in a friendly match in the United States. The Gunners slumped to a 2-0 defeat following a couple of errors, and will be hoping for better in the Premier League.

Man Utd were just one of the five sides Arsenal lost to in the Premier League last season, falling to a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford. However, at the Emirates, the Gunners won a thrilling encounter 3-2 following a late Nketiah winner.

Both sides have spent big this summer, so we should be in for a mouth-watering clash.

Despite Everton being the side that Arsenal have the most victories against in their history, last season’s trip to Goodison Park did not go to plan.

Sean Dyche’s first game in charge of Everton saw the Toffees play host to the Gunners, a game which finished 1-0 to the Merseyside club after a goal from James Tarkowski. Arsenal did get their revenge under a month later, however, demolishing Everton 4-0 at the Emirates.

Goodison Park has been an incredibly difficult trip for Arsenal in recent years, losing their last three visits. The Gunners haven’t beaten Everton away from home since a 5-2 victory during the 2017/18 season.

Arsenal’s return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign will begin in September, even though they are yet to know their European opponents.

The Gunners head straight into the group stage hoping to perform better than they have in their most recent Champions League ventures, with Arsenal having fallen at the last 16 in their last seven attempts.

Arsenal will be in pot two for the draw which takes place on 31 August, meaning they could face some of Europe’s elite. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli could be possible opponents, although they will avoid Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter and Borussia Dortmund.

The first north London derby of the season will take place towards the end of September, with bragging rights up for grabs yet again

Arsenal secured those rights last season, beating Tottenham 3-1 and 2-0 on their way to a second-placed finish. Arteta will be glad to see the back of Harry Kane, who was always good for a goal in this fixture, and the Spaniard will be eager to get the lowdown on new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

It promises to be a fiery encounter at the Emirates and is certainly one you won’t want to miss.
